Sandeep conducts and leads independent investigations into alleged wrongdoing by executives, directors, and businesses. He knows how to manage sensitive inquiries under time pressure and deliver findings that withstand scrutiny. As Head of BMO Financial Group’s Canadian Corporate Investigations team, he led investigations across every area ranging from internal policy and regulatory breaches to fraud and serious criminal activity.

Sandeep defends businesses, directors, and executives facing regulatory enforcement proceedings. He led BMO’s Canadian regulatory legal team, navigating investigations and enforcement matters with securities, privacy, consumer protection, and competition regulators. He understands how regulators think and how to position clients strategically in responding to investigations and defending enforcement actions.

Sandeep previously practiced in the national litigation departments at Torys LLP and Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, and handled complex business disputes and class actions across Canada.

  • Independent directors in defending claims for $1.4 billion related to the collapse of an investment fund company.
  • An officer and shareholder in defending a $900 million claim related to the failure of a construction company.
  • Public and private companies, directors, and executives in the banking, insurance, energy, manufacturing, and consumer product industries in defending breach of contract, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, and misrepresentation disputes.
  • Multi-national companies in defending class actions alleging conspiracy, fraud, misrepresentation, price-fixing, and product liability.

  • Employees at all levels of a major financial institution for alleged misconduct ranging from internal policy breaches to financial impropriety to serious criminal activity.
  • Athletes, coaches, and executives regarding alleged sexual, physical, and psychological maltreatment, discrimination, grooming, and boundary transgressions in elite-level sports across Canada.
  • Organizational issues involving significant legal, regulatory, financial, or reputational risk, including the largest external cybersecurity breach in Canadian financial services history and related fraud and privacy violations involving customer information.

Regulatory Defence

Sandeep has defended companies and individuals against securities, competition, and privacy regulators across Canada, including:

  • Companies, directors, executives, and employees across multiple industries in insider trading, fraud, material misrepresentation, stock option, and compliance investigations and enforcement hearings before provincial securities commissions and CIRO.
  • Companies in the consumer products, construction, manufacturing, and transportation industries in price-fixing, bid-rigging, misleading advertising, and abuse of dominance investigations under the Competition Act, and a major Canadian bank in unprecedented, concurrent OSFI and FCAC investigations into sales practices.
  • Public and private companies in connection with privacy breaches and OPC investigations.
  • Multiple companies responding to search warrants, production orders, and information requests from regulators and law enforcement.

Sandeep has advised businesses on governance frameworks, crisis response, and post-investigation remediation, including:
